National Rifle Association facing backlash as corporate giants drop links with gun lobby group

A wave of companies has ended their association with the National Rifle Association as the backlash against the gun lobby group spreads. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, companies have come under pressure on social media to sever their ties with the NRA. The NRA's five million members have, until now, enjoyed a raft of favourable deals from the NRA's corporate partners, including cut-price car hire. However Hertz and Enterprise holdings - the parent company of major car rental firms Enterprise, Alamo and National - announced the end of their co-branding memberships. First National Bank of Omaha, which offers the "Official Credit Card of the NRA" - with benefits including  five per cent cash back on petrol and sporting goods - announced it was ending the arrangement. The sweeping corporate desertion of the NRA follows a social media campaign under the #BoycottNRA hashtag, which has named and shamed companies with ties to the gun lobby group. They want to cut down this “bizarre and increasingly popular” funeral customs that they believe are “corrupting the social atmosphere.” This unusual tradition has been a “longstanding practice” for wealthy families who are living in the rural areas across the Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Hebei provinces of the Asian country. What is known about this unusual custom and why China is cracking down on ?
According the the Global Times, “scantily clad women” in diaphanous garments such as “sexy lingerie or other revealing clothing” strut their stuff on stage, in front of a black and white photo of the deceased, displayed on a big screen television. Around the photo are the emblazoned words “We offer profound condolences for the death of this man.”

Abbas downplays health concerns after US hospital visit

Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas appeared on local television Friday to downplay concerns over his health after undergoing what were described as routine tests in the United States. In an interview with Palestine TV while in the US, 82-year-old Abbas rejected reports he had been rushed to hospital during his visit. The health of the longtime smoker has long been the subject of speculation, with no clear successor identified.
